James J Smyth MVB cert SHP MRCVS

Jim is our Practice Principle. He graduated from University College Dublin in 1974 and set up practice in Loughrea in 1981. Railway Veterinary Clinic, our purpose built facility at Station Road opened its doors in April 1998. Jim takes care of both our large and small animal patients. He has further qualifications in Sheep Health and Production, ram fertility testing. Jim has a special interest in Canine and Feline dental disease, dental prophylaxis. Jim is happily married to Marie and has two daughters. “Ben” his dog very rarely leaves his side. The Smyth family also has two cats “Thelma” and “Louise”. Jim has many other interests including rugby, walking and soccer.

Sarah Enright M.V.B

Sarah qualified as a veterinary surgeon from U.C.D in 2008 and joined the Railway Vet Clinic in 2013. She has worked overseas for a number of years including the U.K and Australia and has gained valuable experience. She has a keen interest in the Small Animal Medicine aspect of her job. Sarah has a rescued English Springer Spaniel called “Tess” and they can be often found walking the hills and mountains surrounding Loughrea on their time off. Sarahs other hobbies include; cycling, running and cooking.

Edel Dervan RVN Dip DG

Edel graduated in Veterinary Nursing from Athlone IT in 2007 followed by an Honours degree in Agricultural Science in 2008. She is also a qualified groomer. Along with Sarah, Edel takes care of our in patients and ensures that clients are made aware of the aftercare of their pet. Edel has a special interest in the laboratory aspect of veterinary health, practice management and pet nutrition. Edel has an adopted collie cross called “Bunty”. Outside of work Edel loves to play Camogie, support local GAA teams, walking and running.

Ciara Martin R.V.N

Ciara joined the Railway team in April 2015. Ciara hails from County Leitrim and she qualified as a veterinary nurse from U.C.D in June 2014. Her favourite aspect of nursing is Surgical Nursing and she also enjoys chatting and getting to know clients. ┬áCiara has had various pets all her life but most recently fosters clinic greyhound “Blane”. Her hobbies include singing, fitness classes, eating out and travelling.

Siobhan O’ Loughlin

Siobhan is our dog groomer and can on occasion be found on reception. She trained as a groomer in Co. Limerick five years ago.She has always had a huge interest in all things animal related. Long walks with her own pampered Shih Tzu called “Millie” is one of Siobhans interests. Siobhan likes to provide your pet with a calm, relaxing grooming treatment and aims to send every pet home clean, tangle free and happy.
